Welcome to my site on Colorado. I was born and grew up in Colorado. It has changed a lot since my early days, but I think that's because of the wonders that can be found here.
Whether you're exploring the Rocky Mountains, Pawnee National Grasslands, Sangre de Cristo Mountains, or inner city of Denver, you'll constantly be surprised at what's just around the corner.
I grew up just north of Boulder in Longmont. My early days were spent fishing the local streams, climbing almost anything that happened to be above my heighth, and enjoying the freedom to be myself that was all important to native Coloradans.
My grandmother started in eastern Colorado as a homesteader back in the 1890's. She used to talk about hitching the wagon and delivering mail with her father to local neighbors.
She also used to talk about being a teacher, a nurse, and learning latin as a young child.
My mother grew up during the depression working from the start at baggin sugar beets or delivering coal. It's not easy work, but we all believed in working hard and helping our neighbors.
As a child we explored every nook and cranny. From the zoo at Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs to camping along the Cache la Poudre river above Ft. Collins, we enjoyed our time together.
Things have changed a lot. Dr. Dobson and Focus on the Family have lead a conservative movement, along with the growth of the military near Colorado Springs. Intolerance is talked about near the Air Force Academy, a concept reviled to the beliefs of early settlers.
But people and their lifestyles swing on the pendulum from end to end. Now we see the election of Senator Salazar, and while his involvement in the gang of 14 is criticized, it's merely the return to an earlier time. I don't think we'll see the hippy days near Nederlands again, but not much is new under the sun. City Guide
